Very recently we took it a level further by donating our services for an international cause. Category IV Cyclone Sidr (winds ~150 mph) struck
Bangladesh on November 15, 2007, taking more than 3,500 lives; injuring over 40,000. In all, 8.5 million people were affected, 1 million homes damaged, 1 million primary school children displaced, 2 million acres of cropland damaged, and 1.25 million livestock killed totaling a loss of US $2.2 billion.

The local Sacramento Bangladeshi community has gathered together to raise funds for these victims through a multi-cultural concert on January 26th—all are invited. WDG is proud to be a part of this effort.

How fun is this?

I was checking out the online printer that we used for our business stationery for our client Natural Dental Solutions and look what I found? Our launch was August 1, and by August 2, we had a client (thanks to Mala and her amazing networking powers). Our first official client was emebaVet, a innovative company offering customized education systems utilizing dynamic, real-time programming on high-definition flat screens for veterinary office waiting rooms, exam rooms and staff training facilities.

Our first project with emebaVet was a sell sheet that was to accompany other project literature in a sales packet. Mala found the client, Courtney gave the copy her marketing je ne sais quoi and Marcy brought the Great Dane (I think he is Warm Gray 7!) to the mix and from there we gave it that WDG magic. Having spent the majority of my childhood in a boarding school in Calcutta, India, I did not have access to formal dance training. However, I was lucky to be around people who had some form of training in various classical styles and I basically learned from watching them. Since I had no one to coach me, I lacked in technique and realized that I would never be able to master the intricacies of India’s classical dances. In a way that was to my advantage, because that pushed me into combining the classical with the contemporary and then there was no stopping me. I started choreographing at a very early age for various school shows.

After having come to this country in 2001 and after several stage shows, TranceFusion Dance Company was finally born. I have been lucky to meet a few like-minded people who share the same passion. We have become great friends, emerging on this journey together. Our goal is to make the Indian dance form more universally appealing and to share our experiences with a wide variety of people. We take inspiration from several classical Indian dance styles— Bharatnatyam, Oddissi, Kathak—as well as yoga, martial arts and theater.

This Saturday was our first performance after having formalized the company. The event titled "India Day" celebrated India's Independence day on August 15th. There was a huge turnout of people from various parts of India. The featured charity was Ekal Vidyalaya, which runs schools in the remotest parts of India for underprivileged kids and adults.

Mala

(Photos were courtsey of Picmyfoto)

The De-zen-ers

Ever notice how calming the color white can be? For us, starting this new adventure as business owners, (and ok, as wives, moms and designers too), we're drawing a lot of strength and calm from this proverbial white page we're about to fill with color, typography, and, with the addition of new clients, some great new people and projects.

Welcome to the new site and inaugural blog for Wacker Design Group! For starters, you might be wondering if we forgot to run spell check on the title of our blog (shouldn't it be "designers"?). We must beg the pardon of both you, dear reader, and (with special regard) to the grammar police for word-bending. See, we have this idea - that great design can bring a little zen to the chaos of daily mail, commutes, careers, families. It can better communicate people, places or products in a relaxed, but effective, way. And thus, since we pride ourselves as designers who can create that zen-like quality in both our -- and our clients' -- lives, we're collectively referring to ourselves as the "de-zen-ers."

We're not the yell-it-to-sell-it automall advertisers. And we like to joke that there simply must be karmic retribution for the passe credit card company promotions that (like us) everyone shreds straightaway. In opening a design studio, we asked ourselves if we could start a new trend in marketing communications. We asked "is design enough?" and we both felt passionately, that yes, we'd like to take on this challenge with you -- the local business, the Fortune 500 company, the government contractor, the friend-of-a-friend -- you name it.

So you're here reading this, which is great and hugely flattering -- thanks! Be sure to keep looking around our ever-expanding site, peruse our portfolio, and if you wouldn't mind, tell your friends, colleagues and networking folks about us while we're off to the races. Thanks everyone!
